Family business makes Roanoke Great.

You know what is so great about Roanoke?  The small town feel that we still have despite the size of our city.  We have that great atmosphere for many reasons, but one of those reasons is all of the wonderful family owned businesses that we have.  For example, I don’t know of any other place in Virginia that has as many delicious locally owned restaurants.  We hardly ever eat at a chain restaurant because the local options are so phenomenal.   It is the same with many other areas of interest in Roanoke. Most of our customers are locally owned businesses, and just like all of the other great locally owned family businesses, Spencer Technology Solutions is a family owned and operated.  We do all the work ourselves.  It is our livelihood, and just like our friends and customers, we take pride in what we do, and we want our customers to be happy so they will continue to come back time and time again.  Afterall, it is our name that is at stake, not a corporate brand.

Happy Father’s Day

What do you have planned for Sunday Morning for your Dad ? Is it breakfast in bed, maybe letting Dad have the television all to himself all day.  Are you participating in something great at church to honor Dad ?  I am sure that their are many special things planned for this weekend, from presents to great meals, but don’t forget the most important thing of all – just to say “Thank you”.   Many times in this crazy fast- paced world we live in we forget to stop and take just a minute and say those important two words.

We, at Spencer Technology Solutions would like to take this opportunity to say “Thank you ” to all the great dads we know.  We are so glad to take this opportunity to honor you.  It is always touching to see how a great Dad takes time out of his busy day to spend time with his kids, and perhaps most importantly takes time to be an important role model and leader for his children.  There are too few of those anymore.  In a world, where Dads are sometimes absent, it is really important to take extra time and appreciate the men who give their all to their families everyday.  So Thank you to all the “real” men who take time for their families. For all you do, for your kids, for your families, and for our country’s future.  Thanks Dad.

Reflections for Memorial Day

Summer is here! The beaches are open, and the grills are out, and cook-outs will be happening all over the country. I can just picture Dad at the grill flipping burgers, the smoke wafting from the charcoal through the air.  The kids are running through the yard with water pistols squealing and playing.  Mom and Aunt Helen are in the kitchen making sweet iced tea and cutting up the watermelon. Yes, sweet summertime is finally here, I’m sure we are all ready for a nice long three day weekend full of family and friends.

But somewhere during your long weekend, take a few minutes to remember what it is really all about. It is Memorial Day, and every American needs to stop, think, and reflect on those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.  We just finished watching “Band of Brothers”, the HBO documentary with our daughter, so she would understand what others did before her, and begin to understand the high price of freedom.  I am sure many of you have family members who have served or are serving now, and that you too understand the cost.  The most important thing for us to remember this Memorial Day is to take a moment and pay our respects to those gave their lives for our country. The young men of D-Day, and the young men and women of every other battle in our country’s history who aren’t here with their families, who have no more lazy summer days because they paid the ulitmate price, their lives so that we can live ours as Americans and be free.  It is very humbling to realize the price that has been paid to give us what we take fore granted every day — freedom.  The freedom to work and play; live and love.  The freedom to be Americans. So have a great memorial day weekend, have a lot of fun, and enjoy your  family and friends, but take a few minutes to remember those who gave you all that you have, and say “Thank you.”
